Rakim Athelaston Mayers, also known as A$AP Rocky, was born October 3, 1998 in Harlem, New York. His father grew up in Barbados, his mother in America. He  has an older sister named Erika and his older brother was murdered when A$AP Rocky was just 13, according to Biography.com. A$AP Rocky had a rough childhood and even had to live in a shelter for a while. Nothing could have prepared him for how successful he would one day become. Now a member of A$AP mob, with a staggering net worth of 10 million dollars, he’s one of the wealthiest rappers in the game.

A$AP Rocky utilized his wealth to insert himself into the fashion industry and he’s commonly referred to as the best dressed rapper. Zak Maoui, from GQ states, “he consistently serves a lesson in what the next big trend will be, often before they’ve left – or in some cases even been seen – on catwalks the world over.” According to Mike Destefano from Complex, the rapper’s style has put him on numerous best dressed lists, positioned him as the face of many ad campaigns, and has even linked him to top models such as Chanel Iman and Kendall Jenner.  He has collaborated with designers like Raf Simons and Jonathan Anderson. In 2016 he was the face of Dior Homme, making him the first POC to ever represent the brand.  One of his earliest songs, “Fashion Killa,” named and rhymed, countless brands from Prada and Escada to Helmut Lang and Alexander Wang. He’s grown since his days of plain Gucci hoodies, and he has grown more comfortable with his own unique sense of style. 

As pictured in the article cover, A$AP Rocky wore Calvin Klein to the brand’s show at New York Fashion Week. This outfit is an excellent example of how he can layer pieces to create a unique flow to an outfit. It utilized gentle earth tones and oversized pieces in the top half to connect it all together where it is then broken apart right below the waist by the slim burgundy pants. This makes the outfit seem topheavy and unusual, yet he somehow pulls it off in his typical unique way. ASAP Rocky continues to deliver new outrageous looks that leave us wondering… what’s next?
