The Addams Family first started as a series of comic panels for The New Yorker in 1938 and the first time it aired on television was in 1964. The Addams Family was created by Charles Addams, a freelance cartoonist. It’s stated that he based Morticia Addams and her slender, long appearance on his first wife. This series focuses on parents Morticia and Gomez Addams and their odd family. Since then there have been many variations of the show, such as multiple movies and a Broadway musical. Throughout all of the different versions, not one has failed to show that Morticia and Gomez are the perfect couple. 

The pair first met when Gomez was arranged to marry Morticia’s sister Ophelia. However, when Gomez met both of the women he was not attracted to Ophelia and fell for Morticia at first sight. You may think that Morticia and Gomez seem like the most unlikely couple to ever look up to, but they rise above other couples you’d see on television during that time, such as Herman and Lily Munster from The Munsters. They always get along perfectly while staying comedic and true to themselves. The couple is also raising two kids together. They are always helping with schoolwork and are always there to support their children no matter what. While doing all of this, they somehow manage to constantly stay in the honeymoon phase. The Michigan Daily states,” If you look past their creepy hobbies and unusual lifestyles, the pair is a wonderful representation of what a good couple should be.”

Morticia and Gomez are completely and utterly devoted to each other in a way that is not always seen. Their love is so strong that there is nothing they wouldn’t do for each other. They make it very obvious that no sacrifice is too big, when they stated on multiple occasions they would much rather die together than be alone. Along with being devoted, the couple is insanely attracted to each other. Autumn Zennith from witchcraftedlife states, “ I gravitated most towards the Addams as the pillar of what a strong, committed, supportive and incredibly loving relationship (and family home life) could be and look like.” Even after years and years of marriage and having two kids they are still portrayed as being completely obsessed with each other and in love. The couple shower each other with dinners, kisses, and shy glances. Morticia and Gomez support one another’s interests and goals endlessly. For example, when Morticia said she would love more time to pursue her interests and dreams Gomez didn’t question her, instead hired a nanny immediately.

Gomez and Morticia are amazing parents who are always incredibly involved in their children’s lives. They always encourage and support their idea of spending a lot of time together as a family. Despite their odd behavior, Morticia and Gomez make a very wonderful couple.
