An elderly woman, facing near certain death, was saved by  good samaritans as they passed by her home, in Nashua New Hampshire. Lariana Garvis was on her way to the park with her children when she witnessed a home burning ahead of her. The smoke and fire billowing out of the home’s front windows grabbed her attention as she pulled off the road and flagged down another passing driver, she told WMUR.

The two heroes were shocked to find there was still someone inside: a 97 year-old-woman and her dog sitting asleep in a green velour chair. A neighbor was able to help kick down the door. The bystanders jumped to action and ran into the burning home to save the woman. Dramatic video taken by Lariana Garvis shows the other two carrying the elderly woman still seated in her green chair, with her TV remote in hand, out of the house. The video states the dog was also rescued from the flames.

In the video, viewers can hear Garvis yelling, “We got you. We got you,” as another good samaritan yelled, “Stay right there, don’t move,” to the woman in the chair, who was very alert and conscious, but looked dazed.

Immediately after setting the woman in her chair down, one of the men dropped to the ground and went into cardiac arrest due to smoke inhalation and stress. Luckily, Garvis is trained in CPR and was able to revive the man while waiting for ambulances to arrive. At that moment, Garvis became a good samaritan for the second time that day. The man is expected to have a full recovery, thanks to the life saving efforts of Ms. Garvis. According to ABC News, Garvis told WMUR,  “I realized my phone was still in my hand, so I just tossed my phone and instantly started compressions, I didn’t stop. I kept talking to him. I said, ‘Listen, man, you just saved her. You’re not dying.'”

In the end, Garvis walked out feeling shaken but very thankful she had been driving by at that moment. “Everyone can be a hero every single day. You never really know what’s going to happen to you,” she said. “I was just driving home and I just happened to see it.” The elderly woman, and the man who went into cardiac arrest are both luckily expected to make a full recovery.
