Hurricane Ida

New Orleans got hit with a category 2 hurricane called Hurricane Ida. New Orleans is unfortunately known for getting hit with pretty bad hurricanes over the years. The hurricane has had many bad effects on the community including power outages, floods, and death.President Biden said, “This storm is a life threatening storm.” One problem is the electrical grid going down. Over 1,000,000 houses and businesses have lost electricity. Officials have said it could take multiple weeks to fix the electrical grid in New Orleans.

More problems caused by Ida are that roads are impassable and the cellphone connection is down according to the New York Times. The problem with the roads being impassable is that the people of New Orleans are not able to get help and support to the people who suffered from the hurricane. This takes time and effort because the only way to get to the citizens is through the air. This makes the problem so much worse than it already is.

Hurricane Ida has also caused another terrible thing to happen to New Orleans. The flooding in New Orleans has been very tough to manage and deal with, especially along side the state’s Gulf Coast according to AP news. The floods make it so much more difficult to get to the people that need help. It also makes things more complicated when it comes to getting the electricity back up and running. Ida is a very complex problem to deal with.

The government has started to do things in order to help the people who suffered from Ida. They have started to bring in electrical workers to start to get the grid up and running again according to AP news on August 30th. They are also sending medical teams to help the people who have been injured due to Ida. Another thing they are doing is bringing electrical generators into New Orleans to get some of the important businesses and other things up and running according to President Joe Biden on September 10th. They are working to get New Orleans back up and running rapidly. If you would like to help out with the devastation of Hurricane Ida, you can donate to the Humane Society Disaster Relief Fund.
