Review of the CW TV Show “All American”
October 27, 2020
The lead role in “All American”, released on October 10th, 2018, is Spencer James (Daniel Ezra). He is a high school football star at South Crenshaw High headed to the league if he can survive the tough situations he faces every day in his South L.A neighborhood. His whole life changes when Coach Billy Baker (Taye Diggs) enters his life. Coach Baker offers him a spot on the football team at Beverly Hills High. This means Spencer can get a good education and he won’t have to worry about gang violence as much. But through different rules and requirements to attend Beverly, Spencer ends up moving in with Coach Baker and his family. This includes his teammate Jordan (Michael Evans Behling), Jordan’s sister Olivia (Samantha Logan), and their mom Laura (Monet Mazur).
Personally, I love this show. It’s very unpredictable and there are a lot of curveballs that people don’t expect. There are also many ways different people can make this show relatable. Although gang violence isn’t common around here, some people have to deal with tough situations that aren’t always safe. Some people have parents that aren’t accepting of who they are or what they want to do. I started watching this show because I knew it was about football and I love football. As I kept watching, I realized this show was about a lot more than just football.
I asked Elayne Gleason what her rating for this show would be out of 5 and why. She answered with, “4/5 because it’s a good show, I’m just not a huge fan of soap operas”. I do agree with this statement. I think some parts of the show can be a bit too dramatic for me, but there are many other parts of the show that make up for it.
Some of the other people in this show include:
Coop: Spencer’s best friend from South Crenshaw
Grace: Spencer’s mom
Corey: Spencer’s dad
Dillon: Spencer’s little brother
Layla: Spencer’s ex girlfriend from Beverly
Asher: Spencer’s teammate at Beverly
Overall, I would definitely recommend this show to any of my friends. It’s a great show if you love football. It’s also a great show if you don’t really know or understand much about football, you can still enjoy it. That’s one of the things I think is cool about this show, it’s technically a show about sports but it’s not the main focus so everyone can watch it.
