Many teens decided to wake up at incredibly early times this year, but why? Who could say no to the alluring colors of a sunrise on a warm summer morning while watching the clouds paint pictures in the sky? That was the reasoning behind hundreds of teens who flocked to the beaches of southern New Hampshire as fast as they could to watch the art of each sunrise.

A growing trend popularized on social media, hundreds of photos were posted online about the experiences of watching a sunrise. Rye, Salisbury, Hampton, and Seabrook beaches are a few of  the locations that became popular points to travel to this summer because of the view.

Kaitlyn Coombs, one of the many teens who decided to travel to the beach this year, seemed to have enjoyed the activity, “I think watching sunrises is really fun and enjoyable, especially when you’re with good friends and get breakfast after!”, Kaitlyn brought up another motive into traveling so early in the morning, “I went because I missed hanging out with friends. Planning things so early in the morning is a lot easier because most of us only work night or afternoon shifts and have nothing planned from 5-9 in the morning. I was happy that I was with good company and we could talk and take pictures!”

Kayla Pothier, who also adventured to the beach this year, explains why watching a sunrise was a great activity to partake in. “I went to a sunrise during the summer and it was very beautiful. With Covid-19 in the United States, it was a safe activity for my boyfriend and me to do. Not many people wake up at 4 am, so it was very quiet and peaceful.”

A very compelling quote mentioned by Kayla was: “Watching the sunrise was a reminder that even in difficult times, there’s always a way to make the best of it.”

As this trend becomes more and more popular, one has to wonder: will this trend continue next summer? From the countless pictures posted online, to the poems and literature written about them, sunrises have so much to offer and there will always be a fascination to watch.
