Timberlane National Art Honor Society (NAHS) held an unveiling ceremony at the Timberlane Performing Art Center (PAC) on Friday December 10th at 7:00pm. Each of the nine members unveiled a unique painting representing all the different forms of art. The themes include but are not limited to: singing, literature, theatre, and digital art. These students were challenged with creating their pieces within a 3 month time frame and outside of their art classes, whether that be after school or during a study period. Needless to say, the members had to learn how to manage their time and set goals for themselves.

The unveiling ceremony was a prime example of how important bringing art into students’ everyday life can be. The assignment teaches students how to fuel their creativity leaving much room for personal growth and perspective with each of their assigned pieces. This year was the first time this project was assigned to NAHS making the entire process a sort of experiment for both students and faculty. Luckily, the ceremony was a success being that each painting was completed by the due date and all of the student members were able to share their hard work with both their families and peers at the PAC.

The students and faculty at Timberlane Regional High School know the library has huge, large-scale paintings just below the ceiling on display from previous Advanced Placement art students. This has been a required assignment for their end of the year portfolio. It is a much loved tradition for the high school helping to give off a more relaxed environment for all. This was a key factor in the decision to provide the same individuality and expressiveness to the PAC and Timblerane Players. The goal is to provide better surroundings helping to alleviate stress for not only students attending the library, but for musicians, comedians, and all visitors of the Performing Art Center. Mr. Constantineau, Interim Coordinator at the PAC says, “It’s been a twenty year goal of mine to bring students’ artwork here into our lobby.” This quote relays the importance of hanging these paintings to welcome creativity with open arms.

NAHS member, Mia Ryder, was assigned the theme of digital art for her painting piece. This was an automatic obstacle she had to overcome considering she’s never explored the new world of digital art. “My favorite medium being oil paintings of portraits, you can assume how challenging it was planning out my piece” she voiced. Fortunately, with dedication and hard work she had to broaden her horizons of art which led to a symbolic work of art leaving her feeling both triumphant and a better artist altogether.

This community service was certainly not something the NAHS members were expecting to do this year. It was refreshing for them to try something new all while still participating in previous fundraisers and activities NAHS values immensely for the overall well being of our school community.
