Utah Jazz Recent Success Shouldn’t be Surprising

Going into the All Star break weekend, the Utah Jazz hold the NBA’s best record at 27 wins and nine losses. This has surprised many basketball fans and associates when it really should not be that big of a surprise.

The Utah Jazz wasted no time getting off to a hot start with two 10 game winning streaks within the first few months of the season. This hot start was led by the team’s three all stars in Donavin Mitchell, Rudy Gobert, and Mike Conley. All three were invited to this year’s all star game which is an event where the best players in the league play a game to a target score of 170 with the leader of each quarter given 24 points in the honour of Kobe Bryant’s death.

The Utah Jazz success has not just come from the three all stars. They are getting contributions from all across the roster. All star guard, Donavi Mitchell, told ESPN reporters, “I think we have been so successful because of how deep our team is and how everyone plays a key role night in and night out.”

They have scorers up and down their line up including Bogdan Bogdanivic, Joe Ingles, Jordan Clarkson, and the three superstars mentioned prior. All three of these players are lethal shooters and are capable of dropping 20 plus points a night. Jordan Clarkson is the league leader in points from a bench player this season.

Utah Jazz coach, Quin Snyder, when asked at the All Star Game about his team’s early success, said, “I think we are so successful because of how unselfish we are with the basketball. Everyone is looking to make the extra pass and help their teammates on offense, as well on defense.”

The Jazz were a solid team for the last two years with a 50-32 record and a 44-28 record. They added some extra firepower and some line up change, and It really seemed to give them that extra gas on the scoreboard and in the standings.

The Utah Jazz as of this year are red hot from the field, as studies from ESPN show that they lead the league in three pointers made, three point percentage, and are second in offensive efficiency. They are also very solid on the defensive end around their two time defensive player of the year, Rudy Gobert.

The Utah Jazz have a top ten defense in the league, and it really shows up against good teams. The 2020 NBA champion Lakers lost to the Jazz 114 to 89 a few weeks ago. Lakers star, Lebron James, when asked about the loss stated, “They’re a really good team on both sides of the ball and make you work every possession. They got scorers up and down the line up which makes it very hard to contain their offense.”

The Utah Jazz look to keep their success rolling through the second half of the season. If you have been sleeping on the Jazz, it is time to wake up.
